Our bodies love glucose and glycogen because this is the primary source of energy. Carbohydrates are the primary producers of this glucose, which is further broken down into glycogen for absorption into the body.

But because my body still needs energy, what happens when I deprive it of carbohydrates-the energy giving foods?

When the body lacks glucose from carbs, it goes to retrieve the stored glucose in form of glycogen. Once this glycogen gets depleted, the body will need to look for an alternative source of energy.

This forces the liver to break down fats into fatty acids and some other substances known as Ketones.

These Ketones then replace glucose as a source of energy. The higher the amount of Ketones in your body, the higher is the rate at which fats are being burned in your body.

In the Keto diet, everyone tries to reach a state called Ketosis. This is a natural condition that your body goes into when there is a high level of Ketones in your body.

Types of Ketogenic diets (SKD, TKD and CKD)
